The Canal des Moulins of Imola is a 40km long hydraulic work that crosses the entire plain of Imola, heading south north to the Reno River. Projected in the early Middle Ages by the Benedictines of the monastery of Santa Maria in Regola using part of a previous Roman canal the artificial canal runs parallel to the river Santerno crossing the cities of Bubano of Mordano, Massa Lombarda, Conselice & the hamlet of Lavezzola. Built for the supply of mills & the irrigation of the fields, the Canal des Moulins is the oldest public work on the territory of Imola which has continuously operated for centuries.
