The area around Penrith is not blessed with many coarse fisheries which means that Whins Pond is a very popular venue for pleasure, match & specimen hunter alike. The fishery comprises a large 2enic lake split into 2 sections by a net. The coarse section covers about 8 acres & has 30 pegs it is well stocked with tench, bream, carp & roach. The fish grow to good size with bream recorded 14.lbs & carp 20.lbs+. The lake has plenty of features such as overhanging trees & water lily beds its permanently pegged with comfortable platform style swims. Small roach can prove a nuisance on maggot & most of the better fish fall to caster & chopped worm. The tench & bream respond well to sweetcorn. Feeder is another popular method but generally the water is best approached with a pole. There is a good depth beyond 4 metres off most pegs & big bream & tench often patrol close in. Whins Pond takes match bookings & regular matches are held by the fishery management. off A686 Alston Road, Junction 40 of M6 follow A686. Day permits from Mrs E Siddle, Ewan Way, Edenhall, Penrith, Cumbria. DONT FORGET TO LET THEM KNOW WHERE YOU FOUND THEM
